Joel (hōêl) Góngora is skilled in data acquisition, pre-processing, modeling, and data analysis. He has degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics with an emphasis in Graph Theory, and is completing a PhD at Boise State University in Geophysics. Joel’s dissertation is on modeling snow depth in high alpine terrain using Deep Learning and relies on new sampling methods he developed over five years of field campaigns. He has enjoyed delivering seminars to geoscientists on applying data-driven methods to understand geophysical time-series and spatial phenomena.
At Elder Research, Joel has contributed to discovering topic model and graph analytic workflows in big data. When he is not writing, coding, or spending time with his lovely daughter, Joel enjoys biking, Olympic lifting, and playing flamenco guitar.
